Psalms 2023_1080x700

In our Praying the Psalms blog series, we'll use the summer to model how to pray the Bible. Follow along each week as we post a devotional prayer based on the Psalm from Sunday's sermon. Additionally, we'll include a prayer to pray with your kids that will help teach them how to pray the Bible. We hope this will be an encouraging aid to your prayer life! For more information about praying the Bible, consider reading Don Whitney's book Praying the Bible.

Praying Psalm 47

Oh, LORD Most High, we clap our hands and shout songs of joy to praise Your mighty name! You are our great king! We stand in awe of who You are and what You have done. You sent Your Son Jesus to die for us and to crush our enemy. He victoriously defeated sin and death. LORD, we are grateful. His sacrifice and resurrection have given us an inheritance to treasure for all eternity.

You sit on Heaven’s throne and, one day soon, You will return to rule on earth. We look forward to that day when all of creation will sing praises to You, our God and king.

LORD, You are sovereign. Though earthly rulers may plot in vain against You, there will be a day when they will all bow to You as their ruler. People may rebel against You now, but one day soon they will all bend their knee before You. You will restore everything to perfection. Your name will be lifted high. What a glorious day that will be!

Knowing You will return soon gives us hope during these trying times. Until then, LORD, we will sing a joyful song and praise Your mighty name, our God and king.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

We look forward to the day when You return. That will be a great day! Everyone will bow before You and worship You as their king. You are the King of kings and Lord of lords. We sing praises to You while we wait for Your return. You alone are our mighty God and king.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
