Psalms 2023_1080x700

In our Praying the Psalms blog series, we'll use the summer to model how to pray the Bible. Follow along each week as we post a devotional prayer based on the Psalm from Sunday's sermon. Additionally, we'll include a prayer to pray with your kids that will help teach them how to pray the Bible. We hope this will be an encouraging aid to your prayer life! For more information about praying the Bible consider reading Don Whitney's book Praying the Bible.

Praying Psalm 45

Dear King of kings,

We come before you and worship you because you alone are most worthy. You are the long awaited Messiah, the King of kings. You are beautiful in every way, full of grace and mercy. You are triumphant and victorious over your enemies, mighty to save and mighty to love. Majesty and splendor flow from your kingdom as you rule in truth, humility, and righteousness. You are so different from our earthly kings. You are very God and very Man. In the very test of your own suffering, you were a man of sorrows but are anointed with joy. You will reign forever and ever.

Help us to taste your goodness and worship you in all your glory. Help us to live our lives with humility and justice, longing for the day when every nation will bow before you and worship you. Help us to work hard in discipleship and mission so that all nations will see and know you as King of kings. Help us to see you in all your beauty and know you in a sweeter and fuller way.

You are our bridegroom. You ransomed us, your church, on the day you died for our sins. You have given us redemption, forgiveness, and every spiritual blessing. You have clothed us in beautiful robes of righteousness. We are your bride - you call us beautiful and have given us a royal identity.

Help us to feel loved by you and confident in who you made us to be, finding our value in you alone. Forgive us for when we feel condemned and shamed instead of recognizing our royal value in you. Forgive us for the times we place “earthly kings” on the thrones of our hearts. Help us to remember that we will one day sit at a seat of honor at your right hand. Give us hearts of obedience and allegiance to you alone.

You are our King! Stir our hearts to sing your praise. We delight in your greatness and stand amazed at all you have done for us. Give us grace for the journey, joy in our sufferings, and most of all, delight in your presence. We adore you and fall down to worship you, our forever King.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Praying Psalm 45 with Kids

Jesus,

Help me to know you as my King. Give me joy when I worship you. Help me to see your beauty when I am young so that I will follow you in obedience all of my life. Keep me from the temptations of sin and this world. Remind me that I am a child of the King and that you gave your life for me. I want to praise you forever because you alone are worthy.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
