Christ Has Died
Speaker: Matt Boswell Series: Resurrection Story Passage: 1 Corinthians 15:1–4
In this three-week series called “Resurrection Story”, we will explore the climactic center of the story of Scripture: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our text will be 1 Corinthians 15:1-20. We will summarize the entire story of Scripture, and the resurrection story specifically, by highlighting three explicit phrases: Christ has Died, Christ is Risen, Christ Will Come Again.
Before we get to the glory of Easter, we must understand the weight and importance of Good Friday: Christ has died in the place of sinners. This is our message, our hope, our story, our song. Today, we look at the first four verses of 1 Corinthians 15 and highlight three things: 1. The Good News of Christ’s Death, 2. Christ Died for Our Sins, and 3. Christ Died in Accordance with the Scriptures.
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
- How would you summarize the whole story of Scripture?
- How can we know if Christ is of first importance in our lives?
- Discuss the doctrines of substitutionary atonement and propitiation. (Explain these words in everyday language.) Why does this matter?
- What connection is there between Christ dying for our sin and us dying to our sin?
- Are you searching the Scriptures to know Christ more?
PRAYER
Pray that we would walk in the newness and life that is ours because Christ has died in our place.
