Live Worthy of the Gospel

Speaker: Matt Boswell Series: Established in Joy: A Study of Philippians Topic: Sanctification Passage: Philippians 1:27–30

As people who been saved by the power of the gospel, we are now called to be gospel-first people. Our lives as Christians should demonstrate the reality that we have in fact been transformed and are being transformed by Christ. We see in our text the thesis statement of Philippians: let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel.

Gospel transformation begins is with our identity. We are not who we once were, but Jesus has changed us, making us a new creation in him. (2 Cor. 5:17) We also believe that we are not who we will be, but that we are being changed from one degree of glory to another. (2 Cor. 3:18) Our passage highlights two specific environments of our lives that can be theaters of gospel transformation: our church and our own suffering. The gospel changes everything.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

  1. What area of your life do you need gospel transformation?
  2. How does change happen in us?
  3. In what ways can we know if we are “standing firm together”, and “striving side by side together" in the faith? What does that look like?
  4. The scripture says that belief and suffering are granted (charizomai) to us. How can we rightly understand the roles of belief and suffering in our lives?

PRAYER

Pray for our church family: that we might live worthy of the gospel together, standing firm in one spirit, striving side by side in our faith, and enduring suffering with serious joy.
