Do you aspire to ministry in the local church?

All believers are called to participate in the ministry of the church. For some, God has placed a passion, gifting, and opportunity to lead the local church.

Internships at The Trails are designed to help men and women who are interested in vocational ministry strengthen their gifts and better understand their aspirations and calling. Internships combine practical, real-world experience with biblical training and development, all in the context of a healthy local church in the heart of North Texas.

Development

You will receive personalized coaching sessions to help you hone specific skills, reflect on your experience, and discern what you’re discovering about your own calling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the internship a paid opportunity? Yes! Interns work part-time (up to 20 hours/week) as part of The Trails Church staff team. Benefits are not available for interns.

I'm still figuring out if I am called to ministry. Should I apply? Absolutely. Many interns come into the program to better discern their calling. Some even realize that God is calling them to something else as part of the experience. The internship is designed to give you greater clarity about what is next for you.

I just really want to grow in my spiritual walk. Is the internship right for me? Unless you are exploring a call into vocational ministry, the internship is probably not for you. That said, we have many other amazing discipleship opportunities at the church to help you grow in your relationship with Christ!

Is this an in-person, hybrid, or remote experience? Interns are expected to work on-campus at The Trails. While you may occasionally get to do some work from home, you should expect to spend most of your time at the church.

Will I be expected to work on Sundays? Your weekly schedule depends on which department you work in. Some roles do not require Sunday morning responsibilities, but others do. You will be able to learn more about the expectations of your role during the interview process.

Do I have to be a member of The Trails to become an intern? If you are not already a member of the church, you will be expected to join The Trails, adhere to the membership covenant, and play an important role in the life of the congregation.

Do I need a seminary degree to apply? You are not required to have any theological education in order to become an intern. Some interns join while working toward seminary while others are still considering their next educational steps. Theological training is a key component of the internship experience.

If I do really well, will the church hire me? Serving as an intern at The Trails does not guarantee you an ongoing role on the church staff. While we may hire interns into new roles, many will move on to other things. You should expect this to be a temporary employment that terminates at the conclusion of the program.

Will there be homework? Yes, expect to do a lot of reading as an intern! However, you will be able to do most of this while in the office.

Applications for 2025-2026 Internships

After reviewing your application, if we feel you will be a good fit, we will invite you to interview with a few members of our team. Please note that all church employees are required to complete a background check and abuse prevention training.
